Under the authority of the Assistant Director-General for Natural Sciences Sector, and the direct supervision of the Director of the Islamabad Office, the National Professional Officer for Natural Sciences is expected to establish, implement and develop activities related to Disaster Risk
Reduction Programmesin close coordination with other Programme Sectors
at Headquarters and assuring that work plans are prepared and
implemented following Natural Sciences Programmes.
Post Profile:
Assist and coordinate in the design of Programmes and initiatives in the field ofMajor Programmes (II) assigned to the Natural Sciences Sector. Represent UNESCO in key thematic areas, as assigned by the Director, under One UNRe form in Pakistan and contribute to development of a strategic programmatic role of UNESCO in the assigned areas.
Provide advice to, and coordination with, development partners and government institutions engaged in Natural Sciences, Environment and Disaster Risk Management and commission relevant research in cooperation with technical and higher education institutions.
Mobilize and manage extra-budgetary resources in line with national, regional and global priorities and ensure implementation, monitoring andevaluation in consistency with UNESCO financial rules and regulations.
Prepare and update work plansnecessary for effective and timely implementation of programmes in the field of Natural Sciences and Environment.Ensure that contract agreements with implementing parties are prepared, negotiated, signed, and implemented consistent with planned outputs and reporting time lines.
Ensurethat periodic progress reports, project completion reports and other ports on regular budget activities are prepared and submitted consistent with UNESCO rules.
Additional activities that maybe required to ensure success of the work team.
Minimum Qualifications Required
Masters’ degree in Science and Technology related disciplines.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of humanitarian and development assistance, especially with respect to Environment, Climate Change and disaster risk reduction.
3-5 years of progressive lyrel evant work experience.
Excellent coordination,management and negotiation skills.
Demonstrated capacity for effective team leadership.
High level of initiative.
Demonstrated capacity to work under pressure and in challenging work environments.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail, and Internet.
